VIENTIANE, June 25 (Xinhua) -- Representatives from the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) countries met to review past tourism activities and discuss future strategies to enhance tourism in the region.
Representatives from the GSM member countries, including Laos, Cambodia, China, Myanmar, Thailand, and Vietnam, along with relevant stakeholders, gathered in northern Laos' Luang Prabang province for the 55th meeting of the GMS Tourism Working Group, Lao Economic Daily reported on Wednesday.
Speaking at the meeting on Tuesday, Phonemaly Inthaphome, director general of the tourism development department under the Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, said the discussions centered on key tourism issues within the GMS. Member countries shared progress since the previous meeting, highlighted efforts to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic, and presented strategic plans for future development. They also outlined ongoing initiatives to revitalize the tourism sector and promote sustainable growth across the region.
During the meeting, the Asian Development Bank also provided updates, reaffirming its continued support for tourism-related projects across the region.
Participants also discussed priority areas for regional collaboration and outlined future directions for enhanced cooperation.
